1. Take Action… Now!
This seems obvious I know, but is one of the reasons that new businesses fail – people make a decision, buy a product or course and then… do nothing. It’s easy to get overwhelmed or fall prey to what we call “paralysis by analysis. Part of learning how to start an affiliate marketing business is making the decision, and then following through.
A month later they are making nothing online, are down the investment they made and are fed up with the whole thing. Nothing will happen if you don’t make it happen, so make a plan and take some action every day to keep your business going. It doesn’t matter if it’s one hour a day or ten… be consistent and DO SOMETHING!
2. Ignore the Haters.
When you tell people what you’re doing, you may get some adverse reactions, which is odd, as usually starting a business is regarded as a positive event. However, whether it’s jealousy or doubt, you’ll probably get some flack from people who are close to you.
Some people, for whatever reason, will question your decision, especially if you tell them you’re starting an online business. It comes with a stigma for some reason, so be tough and stick with it. You might hear things like:
“No-one makes money on the internet!”
“You don’t know how to start an affiliate marketing business!”
“It’s all a scam”
“What do you know about running a business?”
And so on.
This sort of “help” can even come from your closest family members, which makes it even harder. It’s not they don’t care, I feel it’s they don’t believe “they” could do it and they let theis reflect on you. How sweet it will be to prove them wrong some day, as your experience and success grows.
Surround yourself with positive, informed people who will listen, support and understand you. There are a ton of groups you can join for free on social media that will be able to help you in your journey… or google “how to start an affiliate marketing business for help. 4. Don’t Let The Tech Freak You Out!
One huge reason people put off starting an online business… is they don’t understand websites, sales funnels, autoresponders, and all that goes with that. This truly is far, FAR from a reason not to get started. For starters, there are people waiting to do work for you inexpensively on sites like Fivver, guru dot com, and others.
Starting online as an affiliate doesn’t necessarily mean you need your own website anyway… at least not to begin with and maybe not ever, because you’re selling someone else’s products and services for a commission and using their websites, sales funnels, sales letters, etc.. All you are doing is sending traffic to their offers so once you do that, they will take the ball and run with it.
Also, there are a huge number of online resources available to help you learn. For example, YouTube is packed with tutorials on virtually everything you’ll ever need. In many cases, the information found in courses that you would pay $500 or $1000 for, can be found on YouTube with a little effort.
If you have a bit of money to invest first up, you can even consider employing a freelancer to help you, either on a one-off basis for projects or on an ongoing basis.
5. Learn How To Make Time.

If you ask people who are short of cash why they don’t start a business, they’ll often tell you they’re too busy. As an affiliate marketer, making commissions is the life-blood of your business. When you learn how to approach this business the proper way, I believe you will stand a much better chance of survival in the dog eat dog world of affiliate marketing. When we affiliate marketers promote each other’s products, we all get a slice of the commission pie and it’s a win-win situation for everyone!
In order to succeed as an affiliate marketer and gain the much-coveted status of the super affiliate, there are certain guidelines you must follow. In other words, if you want to make enough commissions to become the next super affiliate, you must adhere to the affiliate marketing code. The code I am referring to here is simple marketing etiquette. This is a combination of good practice, good manners, and old-fashioned common sense… and being honest.
Thou shalt not send unsolicited email;
Thou shalt not spam social media sites;
Thou shalt not make unjustified claims.
Now that you know what not to do, what should you do to become a super affiliate? Well first of all you have to be respectful. You are only as good as your last commission, so treat your prospects well and your customers better. Believe it or not, this is a small industry, and word gets around about who is easy to work with, who isn’t, who is truthful and who isn’t.
Your Bread And Butter Customers
Once you realize which of the prospects on your list are interested in buying the content you are promoting, look after them. These are your bread and butter. These customers will continue to buy from you as long as you promote products that add value. A saying I heard from Dan Kennedy, one of the master trainers in marketing, was “a buyer is a buyer is a buyer“… I’d rather have a list of 1,000 buyers than 25,000 freebie seekers and tire kickers.
Could The Tire Kickers Please Step This Way
From your analytics, you will also see that the window shoppers on your list seldom hit the buy-button. Now I’m not saying you should ignore these people, because they too may eventually decide to take you up on an offer, just make sure that you spend most of your energy giving value to those who have voted with their credit cards. These are the people who will also help vote you right up to the status of a super-affiliate.
So there you have it! Take care of yourself, be consistent, put in the time, learn your craft, be honest and fair, and take care of those who take care of you, and you’ll be on your way to learning how to start an affiliate marketing business!
